Locrian
One privilege of living in Chicago has been the chance to observe the evolution of Locrian into an undeniably powerful performing and recording unit. Operating their own Land of Decay label and issuing recordings on a variety of formats with a variety of labels, the band has consolidated their strengths and gathered a following among fans of heavy metal, power electronics, drone and noise. This development culminated with the superb album The Crystal World released by Utech Records in 2010.
The trio took up the challenge of recording their first 7 inch single for FSS, recording at Minbal in Chicago and mixing with Jeremy Lemos in April 2011. Locrian as a band to date have created tracks that explore the possibilities of long form harshness. Faced with the inherent time limitation of the single format, Locrian has created their most stringent work yet as they kept the explorative nature of their music intact.
Locrian aren't a standard metal band. [They] build textures and soundscapes as often as they delve into riffs or melodies, smearing the aesthetic extremes of doom and electronics into something wholly unique.
